Sachets are also called purses. They are made of five-coloured silk threads and sewn with rags. They contain spices (made of Chinese herbal medicine) and are worn on the chest.

 

On the Dragon Boat Festival, children wear sachets, not only to avoid evil and to drive away from the pest but also to wind the embellishment of their heads. The sachet contains cinnabar, realgar, and fragrant herbs. It is wrapped with a silk cloth, and the fragrance is overflowing. Wearing a sachet is quite particular. In order to prevent diseases and fitness, the elderly generally like to wear plums, chrysanthemums, peaches, apples, lotus flowers, dolls riding fish, dolls holding roosters, and double lotus flowers. They symbolize the scent of birds and flowers. Children like flying birds and beasts, such as tigers and leopards; monkeys go to the ball and fight cocks. Young people are most particular about wearing sachets. If they are lovers in love, then the passionate girl will elaborate on one or two chic sachets very early and give them to their lovers before the festival.
