Collaboration with Sun Yat-Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall

As part of our External school Project in Year 2 For Written Communication, my team and I planned and executed our Workshop based on the topic "Chinese Shadow Puppet".We conducted a 1-day workshop for children and families who attend the Sun Yat-Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall CultureFest 2019. We teach them on how to make a simple shadow puppet and impart them on the knowledge of Chinese shadow puppets. The children were engaged during the making of their own shadow puppet and they showed eagerness to complete the puppets with their parents.

From this event, I learn that learning should start young in order to impact passion to the children, I was also happy to share with the public the Chinese culture that is almost forgotten by Singaporeans. This event was very successful as we managed to get good reviews from the participants and also we saw kids having a great time with their laughter and joy on their face.

National Tertiary Institution Chinese Reading Fest 2019

During the commences of National Tertiary Institution Chinese Reading Fest, I take part in the festival as a student presenter.

Our class created the online audiobook for the Fest as part of our school Project in Year 2 For Written Communication. We are expected to create an audiobook website for the public.

The website serves as a platform for educational purpose for anyone who wants to know more about the Modern Chinese poem or novels though listening to audio. It was a very valuable experience as it was our first time creating a website. Even though it was challenging for us, we still managed to create the website while boosting out creating skills. Through this experience, I take up many types of skills including website creating, video editing and audio recording that will benefit me when I entered the workforce.

The fest was successful and the guest of honours even praised us for our contributions and effort in this fest.

"Lighting up the CBD: A Heritage Trail of Singapore's 'Wall Street'"

As part of our External school Event from the course, I planned and participated in the Singapore Chinese Cultural Centre Mid-Autumn Heritage Tour 2019 as Facilitator and Committee Member during the period of Mid-Autumn Festival. This event is a remarkable experience for me as it allows me to experience being a one-day student guide. I have to conduct guided tours for the public to savour the ambience of the Golden Shoe area and discover the history of Singapore’s “Wall Street”.  From this event, I have learned to be more confident when speaking in front of a large crowd.

Overall the events were successful as the public was impressed by the amount of information they gain from this event. I was also praised by 1 participant as a good speaker.

 Chinatown Cultural Heritage Walk 2019

Cultural Heritage Walk is an event co-organised by CPCLL and Singapore Federation of Chinese Clans Association (SFCCA). It aims to encourage Singapore students to understand and appreciate the local heritage and culture. In this event, I  take on the role as a tour guide to guide the secondary student to go on a tour through the famous cultural and heritage sites in the Bukit Pasoh and Chinatown area. During the walk, my friends and I had to take charge of the students safely when crossing the roads.

Even though we have a hard time to control the students as there are some students who are more active than the rest. Overall it was heartwarming to see the children have fun in the process of learning through the walk. I learnt to take charge of the students which will benefit me when I take up the job of a teacher as I will need to control the classroom learning environment.

This event was a memorable event for me as I witness many smiles from the student I am taking for the tour, their smile when they learn and test out interesting cultural games station.
